CONSUL GENERAL OF CUBA IN TORONTO HOLDS MEETING WITH MAYOR OF WINDSOR.
Windsor, May 13th, 2013. The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Javier Domokos Ruiz, was received by Mr. Eddie Francis, Mayor of the city of Windsor, Ontario, who held a lively exchange on various issues of common interest.
The meeting, scheduled as a courtesy call visit by the Cuban diplomat to the authorities on his first visit to the city, served to provide a brief overview of the relations between Cuba and Canada and the potential that exists to strengthen trade relations and exchanges between the two peoples in the cultural, academic and sports fields.
Mayor Eddie Francis, meanwhile, explained the potential that has developed the region in recent years on agriculture, making it one of the largest producers of vegetables and other crops in the province of Ontario. He said he was impressed by the large number of tourists who travel from Windsor to Cuba, through the many direct charter flights to various Cubans destinations.
Windsor, on the southern end of the province of Ontario, has a population of 208,402 according to the 2001 census, and was founded in 1749 by the French. It is crossed by the Detroit River that comes from the U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan. There is also a lively movement of solidarity with Cuba through the Canada Cuba Friendship Association of Windsor.
